As its name suggests, the Society caters for Chinchillas, Silver Tabbies (all colours) and Smoke Persians (all colours).  It also caters for Golden Persians, for which it undertook the work of gaining recognition in the UK and Championship status.  The Society also provides classes at its own show for Exotic Shorthairs of the Society's colours.

EARLY HISTORY

The Society was formed in 1908 by the amalgamation of two rival clubs; the Silver Society, founded in 1900 by Mrs. Champion of the 'Argent' Chinchillas, which was subsequently enlarged to include Smokes, and the name changed to the Silver & Smoke Persian Cat Society in 1902, and the Chinchilla Cat Club, founded in 1901 by Mrs. Balding.  With the creation of the GCCF in 1910, the various clubs and societies then in existence were granted representation by Delegates.  As a founder member, the Society is still entitled to privileged status of representation, whatever its membership.

PRESENT DAY

As we have watched the Cat Fancy expand at an enormous rate over the past 25 years, the Society has also had to grow to cater for the demands of today's breeders and exhibitors.  The Committee is made up largely of active breeders/exhibitors, several with many years of experience to offer the members.  Collectively, the Committee puts in many hours of work to advise novices, produce a Journal, an annual Breeders Register and Championship Show, as well as the day to day running of the Society.  The Society also holds a 'Kitten Register' of kittens for sale.

THE JOURNAL

This is sent out annually to all members with AGM papers in May, and is also available for sale.  It contains up-to-date articles about our breeds, both in the UK and overseas, advertisements, and news about our Society and annual Show.

WELFARE

We run a Welfare and Rescue service for all our breeds, operated via our Regional Representatives, and encourage all breeders not to over-breed, and to ensure their kittens have good homes with an emphasis on neutering and spaying.  If you are interested in  adopting a rescue cat of our breeds, please contact us.
